The process is slow and painful. Where there was once unity, division has taken its place and now it is forced back together with great strain and struggle. The halves must knit themselves back into something resembling a whole though the integrity of nature, once disrupted, never really recovers. There’s always a weakness there after the fact and that fragility becomes its own sense of failure as the quest for restoration continues upon its futile path. No position can find peace in this state as each movement brings its reminder of the flexibility no longer apparent. Where it once bowed and bent and flexed, now there is a stiff rigidity that is a vice clamped down with no release. Each night is a tossed and turned extension of the last where no rest or escape can be found, not even in dreams. Reassurances abound and consolations may arise, but nothing can console the loss of confidence in a compromised system.
